Venture Partner, Naya Ventures

Gowri is an experienced Mobile and Media executive, and is currently a venture partner with Naya Ventures. He is also an active Angel investor with the TiE Angel Group Seattle, and a member of TiE Seattle board. He was on the founding team of Spring PCS and pioneered Telesales and e-commerce distribution in the wireless industry. Gowri founded three start-ups, and most recently led SinglePoint, a leading mobile marketing agency to an exit. In addition to serving on the board of many mobile start-ups and being a frequent speaker at leading industry events, Gowri is an NPR junkie and an avid bicyclist.

Panelist #1: Kaustav Mitra

Vice-President and Global Program Lead for the SAP Startup Focus program

Kaustav joined SAP in 2011 after 10 years of experience as an entrepreneur launching, growing and selling a managed IT services firm. Prior to heading SAP’s global startup initiative he was a member of SAP’s Chairman Projects team where he led a variety of strategic projects for SAP Executive Board Member, Vishal Sikka. He has a Bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Mathematics from BITS, Pilani in India and a Master’s degree in Economics from USC.

Panelist #2: Gita Lal

Founder and CEO of Daman Consulting

Daman Consulting is a leading provider of enterprise data management and integration solutions. Under her guidance, Daman has gone from strength to strength, emerging as a strategic data management partner for major U.S. corporations such as USAA, Southwest Airlines, The Pillsbury Company, Boeing, DaimlerChrysler, Texas Instruments, and Freescale Semiconductor. The company celebrated its 18th year in business in 2013. Most recently, she spearheaded the development of Daman’s Big Data practice that brings together traditional data management and statistical methods with cutting edge data streaming and analytics practices to leverage corporate data assets.

Gita is a seasoned CEO with proven experience in multi-function P&L management, client-facing and marketing functions and executive leadership. She has a deep understanding of the data management and analytics industry and related technologies. Prior to founding Daman, she worked as a consultant for organizations as diverse as Sears Roebuck, Advanced Micro Devices and Microsoft in areas that include advanced econometric modeling and analytics in the realms of media usage, market segmentation, and sales forecasting.

Gita has completed doctoral work in marketing with a focus on advanced analytic solutions. SHe holds a BA in Economics, with honors, from St. Stephens College in Delhi, India, and an MBA from the IIT in Ahmedabad, India. She was also a doctoral candidate at the George Kozmetsky School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.

Panelist #3: Ajay Bhargava

Global Head of Analytics & Big Data at TCS

Ajay is the Global Head of Big Data practice for TCS Insurance and Healthcare customers, based out of Austin, Texas. His primary role is to build analytics-driven organizations and solutions to derive actionable value and outcomes from analytics and big data. Ajay also teaches an undergraduate course on Data Analytics at University of Texas, Austin, and has taught various courses in the Computer Science Department, as well as McCombs School of Business in the past.

Ajay has more than 24 years of industry, research, and teaching experience in the areas relating to databases, enterprise data management, data warehousing, business intelligence, and advanced analytics. He has also contributed to SQL, ODBC and IDAPI database standards. Over the years, he has provided business and technology oriented strategic thinking, advising, and customer-centric solutions for large multi-M$ initiatives for US and European customers across multiple industries.

Ajay holds an M.S. in Computer Science and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington. He obtained his B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.), Mumbai, in 1984.

Panelist #4: Prabhu Venkatesh

Chief Scientist at Minetta Brook

Minetta Brook is a Big Data startup, creating real-time software that analyzes, unifies, and distills intelligence from structured and unstructured information. Knewsapp, their first product, is being offered on the Bloomberg terminal, directed towards the finance community.

Prabhu is a Fintech veteran of 25 years, starting with building Wall Street’s first modern trading system at Salomon Brothers, to most recently a super-scale compliance system at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, interspersed with entrepreneurship in the US and in Switzerland.

His holds a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi.

Panelist #5: Saranathan Govindarajan

Sr. Director,  IT Enterprise Strategy and Innovation at DIRECTV.

Saranathan has spearheaded and fostered enterprise innovation through the creative application of several disruptive technologies especially in the Big Data, Cloud, Social and Mobile space. He is has also co-authored a book, BEA Weblogic Server 8.1 Unleashed, published by SAMS. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from BITS, Pilani, India.
